DINING TABLES
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well,
if one has not dined well” – Virginia Woolf
Design process for an outdoor gathering place. Maquette model for the outdoor table Material: marri wood and steel. Dimensions: 16 x 28 x 38 cm Sketches of the complete outdoor set. The French word maquette derives from the Italian noun ‘macchietta’, which means a little speck, a stain, but also a sketch, a caricature. A maquette is a small model for a larger piece. It helps to visualize how it might look and to determine the approaches and materials needed for its construction. The sketches, the ‘macchiette’, are also part of the design’s refining work, in Latin ‘labor limae’.
This cross-legged dining table is designed without bracing across the leg space. The tilted side rails create a smooth transition between top and bottom while allowing for a stronger joinery to be implemented. The maquette was part of the design development. Dining table Material: Jarrah Dimensions: 78x88x193 cm
